Space NK Heads West
Since opening its first U.S. store in New York back in 2007, Space NK has embarked on a slow but steady American invasion. First came the boutique in New Jersey, then the nationwide deal for store-in-store concept shops at Bloomingdale’s, followed by additional East Coast destinations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Florida. West Coasters have had to live without their own standalone venue for expertly edited, luxury, and niche beauty brands—which is precisely why Space NK founder Nicky Kinnaird has set her sights on Brentwood, California. “I love the community as well as the unique and relaxed environment,” Kinnaird says of her new digs in the Brentwood Country Mart, which officially open for business on Monday. Designed by Steven O’Neil of O’Neil-Langan Architects and Chris Skinner, director of Space NK store design and visual merchandising, the L.A. shop takes over the same space that was built for the mart’s original apothecary when it first opened in 1948. “We wanted to honor the landmark’s 1940′s architecture and incorporate design elements from the original space,” Kinnaird says. Sounds like a pretty swell backdrop for indulging in Eve Lom cleansers, Diptyque candles, and By Terry makeup. Also of note: A Pressed Juicery outpost and a Bar Method fitness studio are on the adjacent block, making this little SoCal corner a near perfect beauty trifecta.
