Chanel Iman, Rachel Feinstein Currin and John Currin, and Waris Ahluwalia joined Vogue's Sally Singer at Hotel Griffou last night for a party she hosted celebrating Hussein Chalayan's new collaboration with West Coast denim specialist J Brand. The London-based designer, who personally wears A.P.C. slim-leg jeans until, he explained, "they can walk off on their own," created three silhouettes for the L.A. company: a boyfriend style, a second-skin legging, and the slouchy but fitted Circuit. The latter are not only his favorite, but also Singer's: "They give you the anti-fit harem pant look that's been so popular," she said.
After posing for pics with Kanye West and Amber Rose (the much talked-about duo have been fans since they attended the designer's Fall show), Chalayan sat down to discuss his new partnership. "I'm perceived as avant-garde, which is a misconception," he said. "But I never thought a big American company would be interested in us." Think again. According to Susie Crippen, J Brand's creative director, "we were looking for a collaborator and when Hussein's name came up, we instantly said yes. It's such an unexpected match. It took just one day to get the concept down." The prospects for round two look good, too. Asked about the possibility of a second collection, Chalayan said, "I hope so."
