Mag Bash: Partying at Libertin Dune‘s Le Baron Issue Launch
Our new issue of Libertin Dune just came out in Tokyo! Our launch party at Le Baron Tokyo (above) also celebrated the birthday of Reiko Masuda and was hosted by her (she owns an “It” bar called Kasuba in Tokyo). There were many fun guests, and it was so great to have Ellen von Unwerth, who was in town for shootings for Japanese Vogue and Vogue Italia. It was first time she had visited Tokyo in twenty years!
It was great to have all the New York crew here during the summer. Sandy Kim was shooting Sky Ferreira and DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith (above) for the fashion story “In the Mood for Love.” DIIV was in town for Fuji Rock, which is the biggest rock festival in Japan. We traveled to many locations in Tokyo, such as Roppongi, Shibuya, and nearby Tokyo Tower. It was fun to work with them and explore Tokyo on this journey.
The new issue also features work by many great artists, like Raymond Pettibon, Chapman Brothers, Mark Gonzales, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Lucien Smith, and more. Lucien Smith is one of the new exciting artists from downtown NYC. He was showing his new work, Nature Is My Church, at Salon 94 when I visited him last month, and we are showing his work from this year’s shows. He brought a nice, clean breeze from New York to the magazine.
One of fashion stories was “Pin-Up” from Tokyo, photographed by Kazunali Tajima, and styled by Masuda. Japanese actress Manami Higa showed some skin in Bettie Page-inspired Louis Vuitton outfits.
