Veg That’s Got the Edge: Inside Adelaide’s House of Organics
House of Organics is a fruit-and-vegetable stall located smack-dab in the middle of Adelaide’s iconic Central Markets (stall 34/35, to be exact), where the art of produce styling knows no boundaries. Case in point: cherub-like Roman statues sit pretty alongside pyramids of portobello mushrooms; chemical-free rhubarb; premium-grade, mild chilies; and farm-fresh free-range eggs.
Team the ultra-kitsch props with eloquent descriptions of sustainably grown fruit and vegetables, and you’ve got yourself a must-see when it comes to market shopping. Never mind the mass of dried peppers and garlic suspended from the ceiling beams, this is a place where even pumpkins are sold with their own knitted cozies, and the color palette reminds me of a de Kooning canvas.
Put simply: If you are what you eat, then you know you’re on a good wicket with House of Organics. How do you like them apples?
