Motor City Must: Inside the 12,000 Square-Foot Detroit Antiques Mall
Part of my weekend routine usually includes vintage shopping at some point. I am constantly on the lookout for great vintage for the Shinola offices, fixtures, and products for our stores, as well as cool finds for myself. The Detroit Antiques Mall has become my go-to place. I love it because there’s always something there I didn’t see the time before.
They have salvage from the Detroit area, as well as great pieces from around the country. We are currently working with different American companies on opening Willys Detroit, a new multi-brand sister store to Shinola. The store is designed to have areas and pockets of discovery that will highlight each brand in its own environment. Every time I walk into Detroit Antiques Mall with either a faint idea or something specific in my head, one of the owners has some special piece tucked away that is exactly what I am looking for to help build out whatever I am working on. On a recent trip I found some great vintage lighting that ties in Willys’ large, open industrial space with the modern design of the store. Located downtown, Detroit Antiques Mall is worth checking out.
