Culture Club: Literary Heavyweights Head to Jaipur
The Jaipur Literature Festival is the world’s largest free literary festival and a beacon of freedom of expression in South Asia.
I absolutely loved the chance to listen to Jhumpa Lahiri, William Dalrymple, and Jonathan Franzen, as well as a variety of exceptional speakers like artist Subodh Gupta, discussing aesthetics, or the fascinating talk between a U.S. Ambassador and Husain Haqqani (former Pakistani Ambassador to the U.S.) about the delusional relationship between these two countries.
After eight engrossing hours a day of intellectual stimulation, we unwound at Barbara Miolini’s stunning new Bar Palladio (above) at the Narayan Niwas Palace hotel, designed by Marie-Anne Oudejans (formerly of Tocca fame). For dinner, nothing could beat the opulence of the Suvarna Mahal at the Rambagh Palace (below, right).
Amazingly I even managed to get some work done on a jewelry project I have been thinking about for some time.
J.L.F., see you in 2015!
