Candid Camera on the L.A. Nightlife Scene
Ed Ruscha & Pamela Anderson
As the countdown for my return to Los Angeles commences, something that I’m most looking forward to is adding to my photo archive. Currently it’s a veritable treasure trove of personalities and fleeting moments captured in the City of Angels over a five-year time frame. And while I’m far from possessing the talent of the fellow photographers who have inspired me over the years—Roxanne Lowit and Jessica Craig-Martin among them—it’s true to say there’s a certain zeitgeist that I’ve managed to maintain when it comes to photojournalism, as each shot is usually taken within three to four seconds of asking the subject for a comment about the event they are attending.Julian Schnabel.
It’s a modern-day quick-draw of my Canon G15 straight from the pocket of my Prada clutch. Timing is of the essence, which is why I’m making it my mission to edit thousands of snapshots in the hope of publishing a book about my colorful cast of SoCal characters, in 2015. It’s an ambitious feat, I know, but a girl’s gotta start someplace.
