Mixology à la Minneapolis: A Fresh Summer Cocktail Recipe
I’ve had the pleasure of exploring Minneapolis frequently, since we will be opening up a Shinola store there this June. My go-to place has become the Marvel Bar. Located in North Loop, an up-and-coming part of town otherwise known as the Warehouse District. From the outside, it’s unassuming, with no signage.
When you step inside, you enter an amazing little speakeasy that feels intimate and comfortable. I was introduced to what I now call my all-time favorite drink there: the Oliveto. Pip Hanson, beverage director for Marvel Bar and The Bachelor Farmer, is the creator of this deliciously complex cocktail. He has a passion for blending unique flavors to get a crisp mouthful. The Marvel Bar is a great place to go, and it offers a fantastic way to unwind.
Here is the Oliveto recipe:
Yields: 1 drink
•2 oz. dry gin
•1 oz. fresh lemon juice
•1/4 oz. rich simple syrup (2:1)
•1/4 oz. Licor 43
•1/2 oz. full-bodied extra-virgin olive oil
•1 fresh egg white
•3 ice cubes
In a cocktail shaker, combine the gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, Licor 43, olive oil, and egg white. Shake well to emulsify. Add the three ice cubes and shake until most of the ice is gone. Strain into a stemless wineglass and serve.
