Surf, Sun, and Specs: Oliver Peoples Goes All Out for West
Leave it to Oliver Peoples to hold a soiree that fully embodies what the West Coast is all about. Chill, chic, and cool is what was being served up this past Saturday in Mailbu as the über-luxe eyewear brand celebrated the launch of Oliver Peoples West.
Anthony Kiedis, Flea, and Lydia Hearst were just a few of the celebs who joined surfing superstars Takuji Masuda and Strider Waseloski, among others, at the laid-back backyard party. The West collection, inspired by coastal living, brings to mind sunny days on the beach, sunrise hikes, surfing, and my favorite thing: long drives on the Pacific Coast Highway. While all Oliver Peoples sunglasses are perfection in my book, this new collection seems more geared to the active everyday wearer.
Adding to the beachy theme, a selection of surf-star Daize Shayne Goodwin’s photography was featured. The eclectic photos taken of life on Hawaii’s North Shore, where surf culture is said to have originated, perfectly highlighted what West encapsulates: ease, happiness, and love of the outdoors. As I may have mentioned before, my rule is to buy new sunglasses every time Daylight Savings comes around, so you can be sure next time, I’ll be at Oliver Peoples picking up a pair of sunnies from the West collection. As the brand says: Embrace the horizon. Go West.
And that’s exactly what I plan on doing.
