The Spirit of the ’90s Is Alive & Well with Soundgarden and NIN
I really didn’t want to schlep all the way to Jones Beach on my birthday, but to say I’m glad I did is an understatement. The nineties are back, and just to let you know, they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Seeing Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails on August 1 was the thing to do.
Soundgarden is one of the first (and still relevant) bands that really brought grunge to the forefront, and they were in fine form the other night. Chris Cornell has maybe one of the best voices in rock ‘n’ roll, period…but honestly, as amazing as they were, it’s hard to follow the show that is Nine Inch Nails. These guys merge electronica, dance music, and rock, and roll them into one. I was blown away.
Trent Reznor is an innovator and deserves acknowledgment for being a true pioneer. Between the light show, the energy, and the band (especially their drummer, the awesome Ilan Rubin), this wasn’t just a concert, it was sensory overload and an amazing experience. Guests who I saw there included Chloe Norgaard, Nur Khan, Natalie Joos, Michele Hicks, and more.
Run and go see NIN. You’ll thank me later.
