Swim Shorts, Via Savile Row: How Thorsun Plans to Up the Trunks Game
I am so excited to share, on this hot summer day, the new men’s swimwear from my very good friend George Sotelo’s brand Thorsun!
Thorsun is focused on creating the perfect swim shorts for the modern, discerning, traveling man, such as George himself, an adventurer who is always exploring and experiencing new cultures while having the most fun. The swim-trunk collection has been designed to be just as versatile as he is, so it can take you from a day at the beach, to a pool party, to a street parade during Carnaval.
For its Spring ’15 offering, Thorsun was inspired by a journey to a little-known desert town in northern Mexico: the village of Mata Ortiz, which has the largest concentration of artisan ceramic makers in the Americas. Since the late 1960s they have dedicated themselves to the revival of forgotten Mesoamerican pottery. This community of master potters and artists creates many incredible pieces, with an attention to detail and sophisticated interpretations of indigenous art.
One of the standouts of the Mata swim collection is the Americano, created by the Thorsun team in collaboration with a Savile Row house. Its precise lines have a bespoke tailor’s attention to detail while maintaining a casual and easy sensibility and using the finest fabric and finishes. From a trip we took together (Roopal Patel, Robert Burke, Alphan Eseli, Demet Muftuoglu Eseli, George Sotelo).
George has managed to launch the most stylish pair of swim shorts to be found—both on the market and at sea!
