"Wearable luxury" was the way Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen described their graceful new lineup. One touch of the ribbed cashmere on a knit tank worn with a paper-thin calfskin skirt, or the chevron-sheared brown mink of a shrug slipped underneath a camel cashmere coat, could give you instant lifestyle envy. The Olsens work with the finest materials, and they've become connoisseurs of subtlety. Take the black duchesse satin of their tuxedo separates and dresses. Only a lingering glance revealed that the satin was actually a jacquard woven with a hops flower motif. Other little details worth mentioning: removable mink and beaver cuffs on a striped wool jacket, and hidden waistband buttons on a matching below-the-knee skirt that allow its wearer to wrap it front or back.
Tailoring remains central to the story at The Row. This season they infused it with an Eastern sensibility. A crisp white shirt and black satin trousers, bisected by an extrawide obi belt, would make for a quiet yet dramatic alternative to classic black tie.
There was a lot of news on the accessories front. Of the handful of new bags they debuted, the stunner was a tote with a magnetic closure in crocodile skin.
