NEW YORK, December 13, 2007 – As Vera Wang's informal pre-fall presentation began, she explained that she was focused on daywear. But the designer's definition of the category is uniquely her own—call it couture casual. Tees were gathered, tucked, and pleated until they didn't resemble tees at all. Alternatively, pieces like men’s trousers, shapely jackets, and loose sack dresses came with built-in stretch because, Wang said, she wanted them to have the feeling of a T-shirt. Frocks were either scattered with glittery sequins or decorated with voluptuous Pierrot collars and jabots. "It's day—just add a sweater," Wang insisted. There were also plenty of those, from lightweight waffle knits to slouchy cardigans, all built for layering. “It’s a little tougher than before," the designer said of the collection. “But still femme."
