NEW YORK, September 13, 1999 – "Freedom Girls" was the theme for Betsey Johnson's rambunctious, colorful presentation, set to DJ Mark Ronson's funky beats. And true to theme, the real-life models, ranging in age from ten years old to fifty something, who stalked the makeshift runway in Johnson's Seventh Avenue neon-pink and yellow showroom did radiate a sense of fashion, liberation. Johnson's signature playful prints showed up in sexy baby doll halters, micro-cardigans, peasant skirts, and simple sheath dresses. "Farm girl" looks mingled with western ensembles of flared jeans with ruffles, and middle eastern-inspired shawls and skirts. "This is a celebration of personal style," declared Johnson, who also served as the show's emcee.
