PARIS, October 11, 2001 – Nicolas Ghesquière once again defined the mood of the moment, capturing the romantic, ethnic
currents of this season with an exquisitely crafted Balenciaga collection.
Ghesquière started with his most elaborate pieces, showing beautiful patchwork vests, microdresses and jackets made from a collage of shimmering vintage Indian fabrics. Paired with loose, no-nonsense cargo trousers, they projected casual sophistication of the drop-dead cool variety. Ghesquière's skimpy, ravaged pink salopettes served as a sweet prelude to his high-impact black-and-silver trousers and skirts; the final all-black, extra-loose vests and tuxedos played out like a clever deconstruction of fall's Victorian corsets and bodices.
Ghesquière's floating silhouettes are sure to be hugely influential next spring.
