Richard Chai

NEW YORK, June 29, 2007
By Laird Borrelli
Richard Chai was anything but short on inspiration for his first-ever resort collection. There were sharp tailored pieces, like a close-to-the-body suit, as well as coats that mixed sporty drawstrings with twists such as tiered or asymmetrical hems. He whipped frothy Marie Antoinette brocades into pretty summer frocks and created sexy slipdresses out of layered stretch tulle. Rounding things out were sweater dresses with neon piping that evoked the body-conscious stylings of Azzedine Alaïa.
