Zero + Maria Cornejo

NEW YORK, July 23, 2007
By Nicole Phelps
Maria Cornejo never strays far from her tried-and-true motifs: draping, layering, and relaxed geometric shapes. Resort time is an opportunity to rework those concepts in breezy, lightweight materials and bold colors. Bright shots of turquoise, fuchsia, and chartreuse enlived easy knits, as well as a dramatic silk T-shirt dress with sensual circular cutouts at the shoulders. Multicolor stripes gave a flavor of northern Africa to a square-cut short caftan and easy jacket. And a subtle splatter print, in keeping with the season's arty influences, re-energized everybody's favorite bubble dress.
