Elise Øverland

NEW YORK, June 8, 2009
By Romney Leader
"I don't go to St. Bart's, so I have no idea what is worn there," Elise Øverland said as she presented her first Resort collection. "These pieces are inspired by my wardrobe while traveling in India." In other words, instead of tropical prints or jersey dresses, there were lightweight knit separates, gauzy leggings, and little silk shorts in earthy hues. The former rock 'n' roll stylist worked in plenty of razor-thin leather, including an apricot cropped lambskin jacket that she envisioned on the back of "an exotic woman riding a motorcycle through the desert at sunset." In sum, Øverland offered her signature edge but balanced it well with softer materials.
