Rachel Roy

NEW YORK, May 29, 2009
By Laird Borrelli-Persson
Rachel Roy said she wanted to "soften things up" for Resort. The tropics provided inspiration, both direct (coral-hued tweeds, beaded embroideries meant to evoke water bubbles) and subtle (a little navy liquid jersey number that slipped teasingly off the shoulder). But Roy didn't let ease completely preclude structure; work-friendly jackets and dresses for both day and night featured the neat, strong shoulder that the designer said she favors for herself these days. An abbreviated body-loving dress with latex scuba piping and a surprise slash cutout at the back is guaranteed to make a splash.
