Alberta Ferretti

NEW YORK, June 22, 2010
By Nicole Phelps
Alberta Ferretti's Milan runway shows are devoted almost exclusively to her red-carpet offerings, but even her most famous fans don't always have a movie to promote. For her more laid-back Resort collection, the designer looked to northern Africa, Marrakech specifically, for inspiration. A predictable point of departure, to be sure, but it made for some pretty results. You could picture one of her A-listers lounging poolside at La Mamounia in Ferretti's sheer caftan with metallic embroidery at the collar and cuffs, or traipsing through the souk in a loose-fitting silk camp shirt and slouchy khaki pants (if she traded in those heels for flats, that is). As for a goddess dress in a warm shade of sand, it'd be a knockout back on the starlet's home turf: the press line.
