Alice + Olivia

NEW YORK, June 23, 2010
By Matthew Schneier
Alice + Olivia's Stacey Bendet marches to the beat of her own drum, so when much of the fashion world is grooving to the seventies, she's feeling the sixties. "Very Jackie O," she says of her Resort collection, and though it's hard to imagine the former First Lady in anything quite that shade of lime green, the point stands.

There were hits and misses here, but no point in taking it too seriously. A + O is about fun—Bendet's preferred nickname is "Staceypants," a moniker hard to imagine for anyone else—and the girls who love the label should have just that in froufrou bell-bottoms, stripey little dresses, and, for the first time, swimsuits (here in a reversible polka-dot print). Every pool party's gotta end sometime, though, hence the new line of draped jersey dresses and skirts, intended to bridge the gap between the young girls who buy Alice + Olivia's core collection and the slightly older ones who go for its career range. Something for everyone? Shrewd move. Fun is fun, but don't underestimate Staceypants.
