Marc by Marc Jacobs

NEW YORK, June 8, 2010
By Nicole Phelps
You think it's mayhem at a Marc Jacobs fashion show? You should see the opening day of market at Marc by Marc Jacobs. The line's Soho showroom was positively mobbed with retailers during our informal appointment. To snatch a look at the clothes, we had to grab boned and quilted slipdresses and perforated leather minidresses off of buyers' racks.

Resort is loosely inspired by a dancer's rehearsal wardrobe, so there were plenty of slouchy sweatshirts and draped tees to pair with leggings-tight pants, pajama bottoms, and the season's de rigueur tap shorts. Jacobs' more tomboy-ish fans will latch onto a sharp black suit, crisp bib-front button-downs, and a sweet tuxedo-illusion camisole. Overall, the collection had a something-for-everyone vibe, which probably explains why those buyers can't keep their hands off it.
