Preen

NEW YORK, June 16, 2010
By Romney Leader
Like Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, Preen designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi took inspiration from Brigitte Bardot this season. In their case, though, they were specifically thinking about the western flick Shalako, where the French actress donned a Victorian wardrobe that was equal parts buttoned up and sexy. Hence, a sheer white blouse with embroidered yoke nodded to the Wild West, as did a pair of pleated suede trousers that fit like Wranglers.

Plenty of options were more urban than cowgirl, however. Thornton and Bregazzi updated their now-classic Power dress silhouette by turning it into separates. The best was a white bustier, worn with black peg-legged pants. It proved the designers have really grasped the concept of creating a signature look and pushing it forward each season, something that's usually easier said than done.
