Tracy Reese

NEW YORK, January 17, 2012
By Brittany Adams
At a pre-fall appointment, Tracy Reese summed up her approach to designing for a contemporary market: "I want to get my customer to wear fashion, but to make it easy for her." In typical, business-minded style, Reese showed current trends in an accessible way. Take peplums. Her shrunken jacket in stretchy gingham has a subtle little kick at the waist for customers who might not have heard (and if they have heard, don't necessarily care) that flounces there are all the rage right now.

Reese has been pushing pants in recent seasons, and among the handful of pairs she showed here, the pleated, cuffed ones in turquoise crepe stood out. But in the end she'll always be known for her flirty frocks. This season, party-ready numbers in bright lace and wallpaper floral patterns came with full petticoat skirts."The retailers demand dresses, so I'm continually coming up with fresh ways to do the classic shift—it's a fun challenge for me."
