Peter Som

"My Resort collection," Peter Som deadpanned, is "very resort-friendly." There was definitely a tropical breeze blowing through the Som studio on Friday. The designer worked with splashy orchid and hibiscus prints, in petal pink and an aqua the color of the Caribbean Sea. Dresses are a mainstay of the label's business, and there were plenty on display here, from simple day frocks dressed up with beaded details to more ornate sheaths with a double layer of lace—one black and dramatic, the other pink and floral. Separates included a trim-cut trouser and two lengths of cotton sweater with an inset crepe de chine handkerchief hem. As is sometimes the case with Som, the simpler shapes and executions worked best—all the way down to what he dubbed "easy evening," a long, bamboo-printed dress in black and white with a banded waist. "It's basically a T-shirt," he said. Can't say more resort-friendly than that.
