Thakoon Addition

NEW YORK, June 6, 2011

Thakoon Panichgul launched his Addition collection quietly, as a way for entry-level customers to buy into his urban/ethnic vision. They responded—so much so that beginning with the Resort '12 season, he's showing it separately. With its friendly price point (it now hovers around the upper end of the contemporary market, and Panichgul says he'll continue to fill it out with lower-priced items), Addition is tailor-made for a younger audience. Which, to judge from its designs, is exactly who Panichgul is out to attract. He toyed with the idea of denim but softened it, cutting motorcycle vests and even a snap-off long trench in sky blue georgette that resembled chambray. Tie-front shirtdresses, flouncy miniskirts, and maxi dresses and caftans in Panichgul's signature vivid prints (including a flat, graphic rose that recalled the blooms in his main collection) rounded out the offerings.
