John Patrick has the kind of personality that fills a room, so it's almost ironic that the focus of his Organic line is pared-down basics. Still, he finds a way to inject each piece with a bit of his charisma. This season, Patrick pushed the slipdress he introduced during Resort and developed for Spring. (Rihanna wore one of them in her recent "Diamonds" music video, but Patrick is the first to admit he doesn't know much about the pop icon.) Here, the slip was updated in a cranberry-colored cupro fabric and came with a waist-cinching drawstring in back—"like an organic corset." A shorter stretch lace version of the slip had a punk rock vibe when paired with a matching black hoodie and a soft oversize flannel coat in a leopard/camouflage print. Another one was layered over a pair of baggy wool trousers and topped with a boxy blazer cut from high-tech bonded nylon. Speaking of charisma, that one had a bit of Courtney Love in her grunge heyday to it. Ditto the boxy flannel shirts he showed with boyish shorts and pants.
