You need look no further than a duchesse-satin top with raglan sleeves to sniff out that Paule Ka is the latest label to intertwine haute ’n’ sport. So far, so good. The fur collar on top is the cherry on the cake. Then layer on the panel of digitized Liberty print. Add a metallic silver bag. And so on.

Ka founder and designer Serge Cajfinger often brings together many disparate strands in his collections. That was the case with parts of the new pre-fall line. It caromed from the ladylike (Liberty-print kitten heels, satin stoles) to the sporty (those Liberty prints again, now in tracksuit-striped cigarette pants; oversize sweaters), from the clean (wide blocks of color, including a fair amount of the cranberry red that's currently enjoying a moment) to the wild (a scribbly black-and-white jacquard). Occasionally, it was much of a muchness. But it succeeded nicely when things stayed simpler, as with a midi-length leather skirt worn with a cropped ribbed sweater.
