collections have a characteristic rigor, but in keeping with fashion's current mood, Manuela Arcari softened up her structured silhouettes and worked with cozier fabrics for Pre-Fall. Outerwear anchored the new lineup. A handful of toppers (cut from either fuzzy mohair or shiny PVC) were printed with moody blooms; the designer has never been partial to "ditzy florals." More straightforward options included classic, cocoon-shaped cashmere coats and a terrific faux shearling. Arcari is a maestro at mixing different textures and materials. This was evident in a "regimental blanket" jacket backed in black satin, which was shown with a feather-trimmed turtleneck and pebbled leather miniskirt. The multilayered look felt modern, as did the jet-black feather accents that added a subtle, dramatic touch.
