New York designers just finished putting their Fall collections on the runway—last week was nonstop snow and shearling. Tamara Mellon
is holding showroom appointments for her May, June, and July deliveries, and true to the buy-now, wear-now ethos of her new brand, what we saw were summertime clothes, the kind of pieces you pack for a seaside vacation. Eyelet dresses, metallic lace bikinis, a split-seam maxi skirt in a boho patchwork of prints—all very Saint-Tropezienne in spirit. Even the cutouts had cutouts. For girls who won't be hitting the beach, Mellon included some fringed suede pieces, which reverberated nicely with what was happening on the Fall runways and looked good with her go-to leopard prints. But there was no escaping the fact that this was ultimately a getaway collection. After fifty-something inches of snow this season—and counting!—her rainbow leather flip-flops looked mighty sweet.
