This season, Rebecca Taylor
took a practical approach to answering the existential question: "What is Resort?" The designer thought about what she's usually doing during the months when this collection delivers, which is traveling to visit her family in New Zealand over the holidays. Focusing on what she'd like to pack for her annual trip home, Taylor presented a tight range of easy, wear-now pieces and lightweight layers to tuck into her carry-on for the plane ride. This included a series of wispy georgette dresses and tiered midi skirts that were slightly sheer (they will be produced with a lining underneath, but would also make for sophisticated beach cover-ups as seen in the lookbook), as well as terrific sweaters for any time of the year. Taylor incorporated botanical florals and bird feather prints throughout the lineup, which were featured on the aforementioned items, as well as relaxed separates like slouchy trousers, culottes, and a utilitarian jumpsuit. While "pretty" is what the designer does best, she achieved a more casual tone by toughening up feminine lace looks with cargo elements, and sprinkling in sporty staples such as embellished sweatshirts, satin bomber jackets, and a pink washed twill parka. All in all, plenty here for Taylor's fans to take away.
