BCBG Max Azria

NEW YORK, February 7, 2000
By Armand Limnander
According to designer Max Azria, Wim Wenders' 1987 film Wings of Desire was the inspiration for BCBG this season. Literal interpretations included wing motifs on the backs of heather-gray wool jackets and black T-shirts. There were also more subtle references like embroidered chiffon tops with ties that fell to the floor, mud-fur jackets, and a color palette that revolved around pewter, porcelain and sable. Colorful pieces included shiny croclike coats, glitter suede jackets, and easy plaid coats and pants. Accessories were fun and playful: faux-mink wraps, fake-fur and feather-covered bags and tall boots in distressed metallic leather.
