had the right idea for Fall. After his misjudged first season on the womenswear runway, he's pulled back and decided, as he put it, "to focus on what could be my basics." This New York designer's women's collection is still very new, but he's been at his menswear for a few years longer—and smartly incorporated some elements from that collection here, starting with a pair of tailored blazers with a boxy, away-from-the-body shape that feels right for now. Hamilton also worked some sharp outerwear into the mix, including a strong spiraling sleeveless cape, and another cape in a leather-look-alike PVC that gives a lot of fashion bang for not a lot of bucks. The fundamentals of the line were layer-able, more feminine knits: intarsias and a couple of others embroidered in Swarovski crystals. Knits are often a moneymaker, and it looks like Hamilton has his business priorities in line. The next goal should be to further develop and refine just what exactly is his message.
