Tim Hamilton Redux

NEW YORK, February 9, 2012
By Maya Singer
For the past few seasons, Tim Hamilton has been showing his mainline menswear and womenswear interspersed with items from his lower-priced line, Redux. This time out, Hamilton focused on Redux alone—and the range benefited from the spotlight. This was Hamilton at his crispest: Lasering in on his signatures, he showed several styles of his luxe long johns and sweatpants-inspired bottoms for men, lots of menswear-inspired tailoring for the ladies, numerous natty iterations of the black button-down, smart knits, and sporty, slightly off-kilter outerwear for both sexes.

The big news here was color. Hamilton defaults to post-punk grays and blacks, but this season he challenged himself to integrate punchy tones such as tangerine and purple into his palette, and the addition made the collections pop. The designer was also in rare form with his leathers—there were washed leather jackets for both men and women, and if the styles weren't exactly groundbreaking, they were expertly done and sexy. They'll fly at retail.
