Fall 2013 Ready-to-Wear
February 15, 2013 New York
Wearable clothing has always been the end game for Sea designers Sean Monahan and Monica Paolini. They're not trying to reinvent the wheel or create art, and prefer to remain focused on making polished, everyday items that girls want to buy now. The duo achieved that again this season with a collection full of fun pieces that would earn heavy rotation in most wardrobes, including a coated tweed bomber jacket with leopard sleeves and versatile suiting separates cut from a glossy plaid jacquard. The cobalt rugby novelty sweater (with number 13 on it for good luck) paired with a hair-cow zipper skirt nicely exemplified Sea's playful approach to getting dressed. Leopard has become somewhat of a signature for the label—it is consistently strong with sales—and a standout here was the felted wool topcoat (worn with a leopard sheath underneath) that earned its spots. Still, it would be nice to see Monahan and Paolini push themselves a bit further to send a stronger message.
