TSE

NEW YORK, September 8, 2011

Earlier this summer, TSE announced that Brian Reyes, who shuttered his own label in 2010, would be taking the reins as creative consultant. Pre-fall will be his first outing for the luxe knitwear brand. In the meantime, without a name behind the current collection, the company opted for a low-key presentation in its Wooster Street store. There were just 15 looks, ranging from fine-gauge twinsets worn with pleated and cropped pants to long, knit tube dresses. Stripes were the unifying principle: subtle and almost tone-on-tone on a knit tee, or boldly blue and white on a relaxed jacket. Marinière-style stripes are the trend that just keeps giving, but on a jacket these actually looked fresh.

An above-the-knee black skirt featured some interesting asymmetric tucking and pleating at the waistband, but it was a theme that remained unexplored by the designers who departed before the collection was finished. For Spring, at least, TSE is in a holding pattern.
