General Petraeus a fashion icon? Check out Freja Beha Erichsen at Moschino before you scoff at the suggestion. Military-inspired gear—whether referencing the hussars (Alexander McQueen), Russian czars (Gucci), or the Canadian Mounties (Ralph Lauren)—marched down many a Fall runway. Was all this martial fashion a comment on the current state of global affairs? Perhaps. Perhaps not. "Nothing is more intriguing than a woman looking tailored, masculine, and proper," says Derek Lam, whose collection, inspired by the adventurer Isak Dinesen, was in step with the trend.
