Jewelry Makes a Big Statement on the Fall Runways

May 1, 2008 – Never mind the It bag or the must-have shoe. Accessory obsession now centers on the need-it-now bauble. More and more houses—Bottega Veneta and Burberry, to name just two—are entering the jewelry arena. And they're not doing so quietly: Chunky statement pieces are the trend. Fall was a gem of a season for necklaces in particular. The moods were many: delightfully Deco at Lanvin, strung with crosses and amulets at Givenchy, and decidedly haute monde at Balenciaga, where Nicolas Ghesquière mined the archives for inspiration. Still, bracelets can't be ignored; Marc Jacobs' nodded to Scandinavian modern, while medieval wrist wrappers doubled as spiked weapons at Burberry Prorsum. Not that we condone violence, but that's one way to get your money's worth.
