With NY Fashion Week in high gear, models, celebrities, and their starry-eyed admirers are running rampant through the city, from the Bryant Park tents towe kid you notthe bowling lanes at Port Authority.
Striking Out
On Saturday, supermodels momentarily switched their teetering high heels and Balenciaga boots for rental shoes at Leisure Time Bowl, as Model Citizensa charitable organization founded by Amber Valletta, Shalom Harlow, and Kirsty Humethrew a fund-raiser for children affected by the tsunami. Valletta and Hume were on hand, as were Erin Wasson, Daria Werbowy, and Natalia Vodianova (with husband Justin Portman and son Lucas in tow), and designers Sari Gueron and Donna Karan (who bowled from her wheelchair). The event, which was sponsored by Bentley and David Yurman, raised roughly $50,000. Valleta, who hammed it up for photographers by offering elaborate bowling poses, actually scored a spare on her first try. "I got a strike after that," she said between turns, "but I really only bowl about once a year."
By the Book
That evening, Craig McDean was one of four photographers celebrating new releases at PaceWildenstein gallery in conjunction with the launch of Steidl/Dangin publishers. Forget moody models and overbearing publicists: For Lifescapes, McDean's second book, the hardest part was organizing the photos. "Those are all snapshots from over the years," he said of the collagelike images. "Putting them together was the hardest part." Fellow Brits/subjects Karen Elson, Jade Parfitt, and Erin O'Connor were all in attendance.
Another Magazine, Another Party
"It's a good chance to get people from New York, London, and all over the world together during fashion show season
before the real work begins," said Another Magazine publisher Jefferson Hack on Sunday night at a party he threw for cover girl Drew Barrymore. Guests at the swank Hotel Gansevoort eatery Ono ranged from musicians Mya and Jarvis Cocker to thespians Tatum O'Neal and Liev Schreiber, with fledging designers Richard Chai and Charlotte Ronson also on hand. Chai, elated about having completed his second collection, had attained Zen mode. "You can't please everyone, but I was really happy with it," he said. Meanwhile, Ronson didn't have to look far to find an admirer. "Jade Jagger just flashed me her underwear," she said. "I didn't get it at first but then I noticed that they were Tootsie and I was like, 'Hey, those are mine!'"
On Your Marc
The late, late start of the Marc Jacobs show didn't bother muse Rachel Feinstein who, while sitting next to Kim Gordon at Monday night's after-party at 24 Fifth, quipped, "We were out anyway, so what does it matter?" Looking at a loop of the show that played on a nearby screen, she said, "It reminds me of a teenage girl going out into the woods, kind of like making yourself sad, but in a beautiful way." Drew Barrymore was in an equally reflective mood. The lifelong actor turns 30 this month, and had these words of wisdom to share about how to deal with the change: "You have to start saying yes to what you used to say no to, and no to what you said yes to." Standing nearby, the man of the hour revealed the key components for a good party: "Robert [Duffy, his business partner] organizes the events," he said. "Good music, good energy are important, and we like to provide that."
