In a week that wasn't short on parties, London's hottest invite was the cocktail hosted by American
Vogue Editor in Chief
Anna Wintour and her British counterpart,
Alexandra Shulman. Among those crowding into Luciano, celebrity restaurateur Marco Pierre White's latest venture, were Thandie Newton, recent
Vogue cover girl
Sienna Miller, and everyone's favorite young marrieds, the Mansons, who arrived with Christian Louboutin.
There was a Hollywood presence in the small but perfect form of
Renée Zellweger, in town to present Best Film at the BAFTA's, Britain's Oscars. (
Brokeback Mountain won.) But it was really U.K. fashion's night.
Betty Jackson and
Nicole Farhi stood up for the establishment;
Roland Mouret and Phoebe Philo made a couple of fabulous question marks (what next?); and Saint Martins' latest showman, Gareth Pugh, intently absorbed advice from that champion of the Next Big Thing, Barneys New York's Julie Gilhart.
Giles Deacon arrived fresh from his catwalk with a stable of superfillies sporting his new collection. "It's the first time I've been out in three weeks," he sighed.
Christopher Bailey flew in from Milan specially.
Naomi Campbell simply flew inand though she missed her pals
Manolo Blahnik and
The New Yorker's
Michael Roberts by a couple of minutes, it didn't sound like it would be too long before she caught up with them again. "Manolo is making my shoes for my float at the Rio carnival," she offered. Meanwhile, Anna Wintour took time to talk with everyone from Hilary and
Alannah Weston and Marks & Spencer nabob Stuart Rose to Duro Olowu, the design darling of Portobello Road, and Boudicca duo Zowie Broach and Brian Kirby. Scanning the room, Broach summed up the event: "It's eliteand that's what fashion should always aspire to be."
