Fashion week officially kicked off yesterday, but the festivities began back on Tuesday and continued throughout the week everywhere from Liberty Island to Bleecker Park to Radio City.

Take Five
As the tents rose beyond the windows of the Bryant Park Grill, the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation celebrated its fifth anniversary and its estimable panel of judges last Tuesday. Past and present winners Peter Som, Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra, Libertine's Cindy Greene, Thom Browne, and a pregnant Natalie Chanin of Project Alabama toasted Vogue's Sally Singer, Neiman Marcus' Joan Kaner, and Barneys' Julie Gilhart. "Wine enhances every process," said Som, alluding to the wine company's generosity toward up-and-coming designers. Of course, with just a week to go until his spring show, he was sipping water.

Chasing Liberty
On Wednesday, the founder and president of Russian Standard Co., Roustam Tariko, spent $3 million and ferried over 1,000 guests to Liberty Island to celebrate the U.S. launch of Imperia, his new super-distilled vodka. Underneath the glow of the green lady, revelers ranging from Donna Karan to Damon Dash were entertained by fortune-tellers, belly dancers, a half-hour display of fireworks by Gruff (Macy's sparkler supplier), and a performance by Duran Duran. Swaying to their eighties hits "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Girls on Film" were Natalia Vodianova, who co-hosted with Helena Christensen, Sally Hershberger, Amy Sacco, and Rachel Roy, who professed love for the Brit-pop group but confessed, "I don't know their new stuff. It's like Prince; you just want to hear the old songs."

We Will Rock You
Gwen Stefani, David Bowie, Nelly, and the Arcade Fire took the stage at Radio City Music Hall on Thursday for Condé Nast's second annual Fashion Rocks event. The mutual admiration fest attracted designers including Betsey Johnson, who sang Stefani's hit "Crash" as she sidled down the red carpet, and BCBG's Max Azria, along with musician Lisa Marie Presley, and actresses Heather Graham, Lily Taylor, and Kim Cattrall. And Billy Idol tipped his hat to Bowie for "telling us from the start that street fashion is where it's at."

Sweet Baby James
Elsewhere that night, James Perse's pals Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss, Vanessa von Bismarck, and Bergdorf Goodman's Roopal Patel came out to celebrate his Bleecker Street boutique at a party thrown in the park across the street. The L.A.-bred designer has taken to his new neighborhood; "I get a cupcake from Magnolia Bakery every day," he quipped in between photo ops with the evening's host, Vogue's Meredith Melling Burke.

Spin Cycle
Later, DKNY Jeans hosted a party for the second volume of the Directors Label—a collection of music videos, short films, documentaries, and commercials by Anton Corbijn, Mark Romanek, Stéphane Sedanoui, and Jonathan Glazer. Oversize screens projected videos from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fiona Apple, U2, Jay-Z, and Radiohead, while the Roots drummer Questlove played DJ. "I wish people were dancing," noted French filmmaker Michel Gondry as a Nirvana mix blared overhead. "I could never deejay. I would want to be dancing." Busy social scenester Helena Christensen, who was rumored to hit the one-twos herself, admitted that she had no intentions of doing so. "I'm still hungover from Liberty Island," she said. "But if I were deejaying there would definitely be some Joy Division and Depeche Mode thrown in there."
