There were some surprises on stage at the 57th annual Primetime Emmy Awards—Desperate Housewives lost to Everybody Loves Raymond, and Brad Garrett beat out shoo-in Jeremy Piven of Entourage. But when it came to red carpet style, the shocks were few. Taking cues from the fall runways, Charlize Theron, Glenn Close, and Jennifer Garner, the last in an effort to disguise her growing bump, wore black. Plenty of others, including Halle Berry, Rachel Bilson, and Blythe Danner, went strapless, which, as it happens, is in keeping with the spring 2006 shows that wrapped up last Friday in New York.

Only Debra Messing and Heidi Klum broke from the rainbow of solid colors that were on display and wore florals. And as for those Wisteria Lane ladies, the five of them looked like they had checked in for a group coordination session before they left their respective houses. On stage together in emerald, sapphire, ruby, coral, and pearl-tone gowns, they sparkled like gems in a jeweler's case.
