"I spent many a night looking up at your poster as a young boy in Ohio," admitted MAC's global president, John Demsey, to Raquel Welch at a party on Wednesday. "You ruined me for everyone else." As the company's newest beauty icon, the 66-year-old Bolivian-American actress was the guest of honor at a W-sponsored dinner at Gilt, formerly Le Cirque, that drew a bevy of well-heeled Champagne sippers, including Eve, Sarah Wynter, and Marchesa's Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig.
W's Bridget Foley and Project Runway's Tim Gunn took turns toasting the One Million Years B.C.star, but neither got quite as personal as Diane von Furstenberg. "I was wearing a Norma Kamali dress and when she told me, 'You look so hot,' I thought I was going to die," said the designer, who went on to salute Welch for being "a fearless woman." After thanking all the parties involved, the onetime bikini vixen took issue with a small detail on the evening's invite. "It says 'Beauty Icon number four,' " joked the honoree, who is following in the footsteps of Liza Minnelli, Diana Ross, and Catherine Deneuve. "I've never been number four in my life!"
