Versace's Visionaries

Donatella and Gianni Honored in L.A.

The fashion fun wasn't confined to New York last week. In Los Angeles on Thursday, Donatella Versace and her late brother, Gianni, became the latest inductees to the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style. Rupert Everett hosted the Beverly Hills City Hall affair, and Demi Moore, Naomi Campbell, and Cindy Crawford shared their favorite memories of the designers before a glittering crowd that included Jennifer Lopez, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Hudson, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Mary J. Blige. (So that's where the NYC shows' missing A-listers were.) "This is all very Gianni," said Trudie Styler, surveying the scene. Brooke Shields agreed: "He was all about glamour."

After the emotional tributes, Sharon Stone took to the stage to auction off a new Versace Lamborghini—it raised a cool half million for the Elton John AIDS Foundation—and lightened things up considerably with a profanity-laced, dead-on Donatella impression. "I miss him terribly," said Versace of her brother. "It's very emotional, but it's a great honor, and I love the people in L.A." The designer stayed close to Elton John all evening. "They really are like family to me," said John, who performed Your Song and Rocket Man. As if his intimate performance weren't enough, Guns N' Roses sang a few numbers before guests went home with their own pair of Versace sunglasses. Hey, this is L.A.
