Eschewing floor-length frocks in favor of thinking caps, the fashion flock gathered for model Jacquetta Wheeler's second annual Quiz Night at the Gramercy Park Hotel's Private Roof Club on Wednesday. "Last year we came in last, so I'm hoping to at least do better than that," said Michael Kors on his way in. "Maybe I should grab a drink." Along with the Kors contingent, 13 other teams took part in the Trivial Pursuit-style game fest, which was co-hosted by Vogue and last year's victors, the Oscar de la Renta crew, and helped to raise over $150,000 for the Darna Center for Girls in Tangier, Morocco. Gilles Mendel and Cameron Silver headed up the J. Mendel/Kara Ross squad; Georgina Chapman and
Keren Craig
represented for Weinstein Company/Marchesa; and team Valentino, which came in second, included Hamish Bowles of Vogue, Celerie Kemble, Annelise Peterson, and Dr. Lisa Airan. "We rocked it," said the latter. "We had a really smart group." Ultimately, though, the top prizea trip to Wheeler's mother's palatial pad in Tangierwent to the Wall Street gurus from Goldman Sachs.
Across town in the Meatpacking District, Anderson Cooper, Ellen Barkin, Calvin Klein, and Vogue's Anna Wintour joined Diane von Furstenberg in a toast to her new all-white store and HQ. "The first time I saw Diane was in a magazine photo spread, where she was very casually topless in a dressing room," said Sandra Bernhard. "It was around 1972, I was living in a kibbutz, and I thought, 'This woman is very cool.' " While attendees mulled her icon-hood, the designer herself was busy leading tours of the new space. "Come and see the special room we have for you," said von Furstenberg as she led Anh Duong down to the basement VIP area. "It's for you to come and spend all the time you need to try everything on." Back at street level, she pointed out an installation of mannequins that blocked the top of an imposing "Stairdelier" custom staircase featuring Swarovski crystals. "There's more up there," said von Furstenberg, gesturing to the unfinished second floor. "We're going to have a second party to celebrate part two."
Meanwhile at the Hotel QT, a soirée for Kelly Klein's newly reissued coffee-table book, Pools, attracted social types like Aerin Lauder Zinterhofer, Olivia Chantecaille, and Helen Lee Schifter. The difference between this party and one in the Hamptons, where many of the pools in the book are located, is that nobody ended up in the water.
