Amy Sacco's Cocktails Party

The Nightlife Impressaria Adds "Author" to Her List of Accomplishments

"Everyone is here to pay homage to the nightlife queen," noted one partygoer, upon entering the second floor of Barneys New York on Tuesday night. Nestled in between the racks of Narciso Rodriguez and Rochas sat the doyenne of the dark, Amy Sacco, signing copies of her new Assouline-published book, Cocktails. "When they came to me about this project, I told them that I was way too busy to do it," said the first-time author. "But they made it so easy. I feel like I really didn't do anything." A long line of autograph-seekers snaked around the room, among them comedienne Sandra Bernhard, hotelier André Balazs, and David Letterman's musical director, Paul Shaffer. "It's a good party. There are a lot of pretty girls here," said the piano man, before dashing off for a random photo op with Tinsley Mortimer and Simon Doonan.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Sacco faithful downed Champagne courtesy of Krug, the evening's sponsor, as Bungalow 8's own DJ Coleman spun pop-y tunes. Come nine o'clock, Sacco was off to her other popular nightspot, Bette, with a clan that included her mother, after whom the restaurant is named. But before she could depart, a man in a hat with electronic ticker tape reeling the word "Cocktails" approached for one last signature. "All the Bungholians were here," said Sacco, never at a loss for words.
