Chanel Beauté's Sublimage Dinner

Jacqui Getty and friends sample skin cream and pasta

"It's not like me to want to get out there," said first-time hostess Gretchen Mol at the L.A. launch of Chanel's Sublimage skincare line. "But I thought it was a good opportunity, since I just moved from New York." Perhaps the chance to score the company's new antiaging cream was added incentive. It contains natural oils from Madagascar's rare planifolia plant, and goes for $350 for a 1.7 oz. container. Held at Jeff Klein's newly revamped Terrace at the Sunset Tower Hotel, the chic, all-white fête included poolside cocktails and an intimate sit-down dinner of lobster and—gasp—pasta. (Nicole Richie and Rachel Zoe passed, thank you very much.)

"All the people I love are here," said co-host Jacqui Getty, greeting Juicy Couture's Pam Skaist-Levy and Gela Taylor, Rachel Bilson, Kirsten Dunst, Michele Hicks, Kelly Wearstler, and Kelly Lynch. While many guests, including Diane Kruger, Shiva Rose McDermott, and China Chow, represented the fashion house in black-and-white frocks, Alexandra von Furstenberg opted for green—and an unusual accessory. "I stepped on a bee," said the bandage-clad blonde. She then went in search of the evening's coveted goodie bag.
