Bossy Behavior at Tom Ford
"I am in love with Marilyn," declared Tom Ford at the party he hosted for the launch of Marilyn Minter's monograph on Tuesday night. "After we finished shooting my campaign, I missed being drenched in Vaseline and water in her studio." Amy Sacco, Todd Eberle, and Dr. Lisa Airan were among those who came out to toast Minter's hyper-real, gritty images at Ford's Madison Avenue emporium. The photographer/painter herself was bemused by all the attention. "I knew I would make it as an artist because I believe in my work," she said. "I just didn't think it would happen while I was alive and that Bruce Springsteen would come to my book launch!" Indeed, the presence of the Boss had the usually blasé fashion and social packs gawking. "I know nothing about fashion," declared Springsteen. "I'm here because my wife knows Tom." Jeremy Piven clearly disagreed with his sartorial assessment. "He's got his own fashion," interjected Piven. "Nobody can touch him." And leave it to Tom Ford to steal a litle fashion-week thunder even when he's not showing a collection himself.
Satellite Event
Another musical icon, in the form of Satellite Party founder and former Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, surprised Trovata fans with a performance at John Whitledge's Brazilian-themed presentation at the old Tunnel space in Chelsea. "The whole show rocked," said Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks. As for Whitledge, would the whimsy-loving designer ever consider showing a collection on a plain old runway under the tents? "Only when it's most unexpected," he said. "I always aim for the unexpected."
French Kicks
Meanwhile, at Van Cleef & Arpels' Hammerstein Ballroom extravaganza, Demi Moore and Marcia Gay Harden, among other boldfacers who weren't locked out by the FDNY, did some gawking of their ownat the high-kicking antics of the Lido dancers. The party, a celebration of the jeweler's new "Une Journée à Paris" collection, also featured a set by the Plastiscines, though they had to compete for attention with the Van Cleef baubles adorning some of the celebrity guests. "I am obsessed with my ring," said Eve.
What Gives?
Mutual admiration was in generous supply at Glamour's Fashion Gives Back party, a benefit for Malaria No More. Big Love actress Ginnifer Goodwin flew in from L.A. for the night to attend with Peter Som, while Thakoon Panichgul was accompanied by Amanda Peet, who wore a rose-print frock from his Spring collection. "What can I say?" asked the designer. "She's perfect."
