Going Out In Style

Calvin Klein, Thom Browne, and The CFDA Put A Wrap On Fashion Week

Pajama Party
Fashion’s whirlwind week ended on a starry note Tuesday night when Calvin Klein’s dinner for Francisco Costa drew the likes of Heath Ledger, Bianca Jagger, and co-hosts Kate Bosworth and Julianne Moore to Wakiya at the Gramercy Park Hotel. Showing off a flowy number plucked straight from the runway, Bosworth said, "It’s so comfortable, like wearing pajamas—chic pajamas." Rosario Dawson arrived with Abraxas Rex jewelry designer Paris Kain, who created custom-made bangles for the show. "It was the first time that jewelry was used in years," the actress pointed out supportively.

The Good Book
Bergdorf Goodman’s third floor was filled with designers of every stripe earlier in the evening at the book party for American Fashion. The Council of Fashion Designers of America’s new tome traces the history of the industry from the 1930's to today. Mingling with hosts Diane von Furstenberg and Charlie Scheips was a microcosm of American fashion, from CFDA founding members Arnold Scaasi and Luis Estevez to up-and-comers Rachel Roy and Thakoon Panichgul.

Browne Nosing
Nearby, at Brooks Brothers, Vogue and Men’s Vogue toasted Thom Browne and the designer’s new Black Fleece collection for the brand. Euan Rellie, Amanda Hearst, and Fabiola Beracasa were a few of the guests asked to don pieces from the line. “I’m going to dress like a man more often,” joked Claire Bernard, who was sporting a gray Black Fleece suit with a button-down shirt and striped tie. It seemed to work for Browne. “Everyone looks good,” he noted.

Bloc Buster
Downtown, at the Cinema Society screening of Eastern Promises, director David Cronenberg’s violent depiction of a London-based Russian crime family left many viewers wincing in their seats. “He shows you that violence is terrible and that the consequences, emotional and physical, are terrible,” said the film’s star, Viggo Mortensen. “I’m glad he does it the way he does it.” Leading lady Naomi Watts was not in attendance—"Baby,” host Andrew Saffir said knowingly— but guests such as LL Cool J, Natasha Poly, and Tara Subkoff kept the party fires burning.
