Jewel Thief
Merriam-Webster's Dictionary was the unlikely topic of conversation at the party for
Ivanka Trump's fine-jewelry collection at New York's Country restaurant on Thursday night. That's because, along with "unibrow" and "drama queen," the word "bling" was admitted into that august publication last year. "I'd like to think it was put in there just for my line," said
Donald's daughter, who was wearing a plumed black-and-white Marchesa cocktail dress. "But I don't think I had much to do with it." The launch attracted Gillian Hearst-Shaw,
Jamie Johnson, Marjorie Gubelmann, and
Observer owner
Jared Kushner (the man routinely described in the press as Ivanka's "rumored boyfriend"), as well as the Trump clan. "She did a good job of making sure everyone can wear it," said proud mama
Ivana Trump of the diamond-heavy line. "It's big, but it's young." Truth be told, Mom might have another reason to like her daughter's jewelry: "Now I'll quit stealing hers," Ivanka explained.
Golf Punks
Following
Stella McCartney's Adidas show at West London's Westway Sports Centre, guests like
Kate Moss,
Debbie Harry,
Twiggy, and, of course, dad
Paul stayed on for the after-party. "I think we need someone to take off their clothes and streak," said
Julie Verhoeven. "It's what people do on football fields during matches, isn't it?" In point of fact, the indoor arena was kitted out with real grass to resemble a golf course. McCartney's husband, Alasdhair Willis, could even be seen taking a few putts. How is the designer's own game? "I play all the other sports that I make clothes for, but I've only played golf twice," said McCartney. "I was just no good at it."
Rodeo Stars
In Los Angeles, meanwhile,
Ginnifer Goodwin,
Chris Klein,
Rachel Bilson,
Amanda Peet,
Kerry Washington, and
Kate Beckinsale turned out to toast the reopening of Chanel's Rodeo Drive flagship. In addition to an entirely new façade that's modeled after the Chanel No. 5 perfume box, a rooftop terrace covered with thousands of LED-lit double-C logos, and carpeting reminiscent of the brand's iconic tweed, the new Peter Marino-designed space features the work of artists whose pieces are directly inspired by Coco herself. The evening benefited P.S. Arts, the L.A. nonprofit dedicated to promoting arts education among underprivileged students. "As a kid from the Bronx, I wasn't wearing Chanel," said Kerry Washington. "When I got my first pair of Chanel glasses, though, I remember thinking, 'I'm a movie star now!' "
